Scenes From a Hurricane
We got very lucky here in the Upper West Side. I previously lived on Avenue C and 16th St, right across from the Con Ed generator that blew. Apparently that neighborhood is underwater and it makes me so sad. My family in NJ is without power and it likely won’t be back for days. A friend’s house near Atlantic City may have been destroyed.
Here in the UWS we have power and bagels. There are a few downed trees but no serious damage from what I can see. I’ve offered up my shower and electricity to friends who have had much worse luck below 39th St — assuming they can even get up here.
School is closed again today so I’ll be trying my best to stay focused and catch up on work. I’m planning to go for a run in Riverside later to survey the damage there and see how high the Hudson is today.
Sending my love to those who were much harder hit. If I could send you a carrier pigeon of bagels, I would!
